The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has led to an unprecedented nationwide health and economic crisis that has highlighted the critical role that federal nutrition programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), play to help families put food on the table and make ends meet. SNAP reaches over 40 million Americans, including 10 million Latinos, at a time when the pandemic has exposed more Latinos to food insecurity. Prior to the current health and economic crisis, 24% of Latino children lived in a food-insecure household compared to 13% of non-Hispanic White children. This webinar will provide participants with an overview of SNAP, discuss how the program impacts Latinos in light of recent congressional and administrative actions, and offer advocacy opportunities to strengthen the program and reduce food insecurity.
